12 Feb Ingrown Toenail
If you’ve ever struggled with an ingrowing toenail then you know how sharp and painful it can be on walking! An ingrown toenail is a common condition which may cause discomfort or become infected. You might see the condition described as ‘ingrowing’ but both terms mean the same thing. Various treatments can be given by a doctor or a person qualified to diagnose and treat foot disorders (a podiatrist). See a doctor if you have symptoms of infection around the nail, particularly if you have diabetes, a poor immune system or other foot problems. https://patient.info/foot-care/ingrowing-toenails-ingrown-toenails
Common causes of ingrown toenails are:
- Wearing footwear that is too tight, too narrow or too short.
- Incorrect toe nail cutting, cutting the edges, failing to cut straight across the nail can cause the skin around the nail to grow over the nail causing ingrown toenail.
- Injury to the toenail.
Ingrown toenails can cause considerable pain and skin around the affected area can be red, swollen and hard with infection present in some cases. Contact your health professional for advice on treatment.
